As we move into this unknown and uncertain future, we are so excited to open ourselves up to the Spirit, to re-imagine a way forward, and to co-create a new way together.

Juneteenth is about liberation and freedom for black people in the United States.

As a church, we want to remember and celebrate this historic moment, and also commit to work and sacrifice to help make these promises of freedom more and more of a reality in America.

Because we know as a country, there is still work to be done.

Tomorrow night we will be doing a special edition

Tomorrow night we will be doing a special edition of “When the Kids Go Down.” We will be talking about conflict, relationships, uncomfortable exchanges, and the cost of speaking truth and standing up for justice.

So, if you’ve been tired, if you’ve had conflict with friends and family in the midst of this public uprising, and if you’ve dealt with any relational issues due to stances you’ve taken or things you’ve said, join us tomorrow night!

These are two events our leadership support and will participate in this weekend as our current way of protesting and bearing witness to the injustice done the black community and the legacy of killing innocent black people by the police.

We did not organize either one of these events, but we are with those who have and will be present and support their leadership.

Keep saying their names as we keep following the radical protesting Jesus through this cultural moment.

So happy to support the organizers of this event—and amazing couple from our church.

But they know, and we know these demonstrations are about remembering George Floyd, they’re about continuing to say the names of all the victims of police violence and murder, and confusing to force our country to look at the history oppression and devaluing of black life.

The night was peaceful, it was beautiful, but we have to keep saying their names and keep calling for justice. 📸 @connortrimble

During this important and intense cultural moment, our liturgy will reflect on the murder of George Floyd, what is happening right now in our country, and how Jesus was a protester.

Protest is a word that, from its latin roots, can mean either to bear public witness or to speak openly for something.

The pastoral leadership of Imagine believe that in order to say “Yes” to the Kingdom of God, it also requires us to publicly say “No” to anything that is anti-Kingdom. And without any doubt, the legacy of institutionalized white supremacy, the structural sin of systemic racism, and the history of police brutality and the murder of George Floyd is anti-Kingdom.

Wednesday at 5:30 pm, Kevin will be hosting a conversation here on IG Live called “Black Pain and Liberation” with Dr. Dwight A. Radcliff.

Dwight is the Assistant Provost for the William E. Panel Center for African American Church Studies and Assistant Professor of Mission, Theology, and Culture at Fuller Theological Seminary.

Join us for what will be a powerful conversation about how George Floyd, Black Lives Matter, and the current protests are connected to a history of Black pain and their struggle for liberation in our country.

The murder of George Floyd is not an isolated incident, but rather is a part of an entire history of institutionalized white supremacy and a legacy of racism and the devaluing of black life in our country. Sometimes, in order to say yes to Jesus’ vision of the Kingdom of God, we also need to have the vision and the courage to publicly say no to anything that is anti-Kingdom. #blackouttuesday

When Jesus casted out demons, he would ask them their name. Evil needs to be named in its fullness before it can be sent away.

We believe it is an ongoing need to name the evils of white supremacy, systemic racism, and the devaluing of black life in our country.

At Imagine, we are committed to follow Jesus through any form of hatred or evil, and into the beauty and justice of the Kingdom of God.

God of justice,

Aid us, we pray, in overcoming the sin of white supremacy as a nation.
Grant us your grace in eliminating this blight
from our hearts, our communities,
our social and civil institutions.

Fill our hearts with love for you and our neighbor
so that we may work with you
in healing our land from racial injustice.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
